How to start your licensing exam application: Dataflow and exam booking

Last updated 1 October 2026

Most candidates lose time not on the exam but on the paperwork before it. The steps are broadly the same for every Gulf authority: check your eligibility, get your documents verified, then book the exam.

1. Check you are eligible

Your dental degree must come from a recognised institution, and each authority sets a minimum period of clinical experience for the title you are applying for. Documents that are not in English or Arabic need a legal translation, and some need attestation. Sort this out first — it is the slowest part to fix later.

2. Gather your documents

You will usually be asked for:

- your degree certificate, and for some authorities the transcript - your internship certificate - a valid licence or registration from your home country - a Good Standing Certificate issued recently (they expire after a few months) - experience letters stating your position and dates - your passport, and a passport-size photo on a white background

3. Primary source verification (Dataflow)

The authority does not take your certificates at face value. A verification company — Dataflow for most Gulf authorities — writes to your university, your licensing body and your employers and confirms each document at source. Allow around three weeks, and longer if an institution is slow to answer. You pay the verification fee yourself.

4. Apply on the authority's portal

Each authority has its own online portal. In Dubai you begin with a self-assessment on Sheryan; for the UAE Ministry of Health you request an assessment through its e-services; in Abu Dhabi you register through TAMM using UAE Pass; in Qatar you apply for evaluation on the health practitioners portal. In each case you upload your documents and the verification report.

5. Book the exam

Once the authority approves your application you receive an eligibility notice, and only then can you book a seat with the test provider — Prometric or Pearson VUE, depending on the authority. Choose a date that leaves you real preparation time.

Tips

Keep scanned copies of everything in one folder, with file names that say what each one is. Use the same spelling of your name as your passport on every form. Do not let your Good Standing Certificate expire while the verification is running.

Before you rely on this

Licensing rules, fees and pass marks are changed by the authorities from time to time. Treat the figures here as a starting point and confirm them on the authority's own website before you apply or pay.
