OMSB dental exam pattern for Oman
Last updated 1 October 2026
Dentists who want to practise in Oman are assessed by the Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB). The assessment has two parts: a computer-based written paper, then an interview.
The written paper
The paper is sat at an approved test centre, in Oman or abroad. It has 100 single-best-answer multiple-choice questions and the pass mark is 65%. Results are normally sent by email soon after the exam. You can sit the paper a limited number of times in a calendar year.
What the questions cover
The paper is weighted towards everyday clinical dentistry:
- operative dentistry, oral surgery and endodontics carry the largest share - prosthodontics, periodontics and paediatric dentistry come next, in roughly equal parts - orthodontics and special care dentistry make up a smaller block - a few questions test basic sciences and core professional competencies
Plan your revision in the same proportions: the first group alone is well over a third of the paper.
The interview
Candidates who pass the written paper may be called to an interview (viva) with a panel in Muscat. It is short — expect well under an hour — and it is run in limited monthly sessions, so there can be a wait for a date. Experience requirements apply.
On the day
Bring valid photo identification: a government-issued ID if you are an Omani national, your passport if you are not. The name on it must match your booking exactly.
Before you rely on this
Licensing rules, fees and pass marks are changed by the authorities from time to time. Treat the figures here as a starting point and confirm them on the authority's own website before you apply or pay.
